About a month ago I started thinking about what I wanted to do for my birthday. I thought about the things I like to do best, what makes me feel the best.
I thought about a pedicure.
Going to a movie.
Cake. Lots of cake.
And then it occurred to me......
When I feel best, is when I do things for other people.
So I came up with this idea:
28 Acts of Kindness
One act of kindness, some random, some not, for each year I've been alive.
It was awesome.
I ended today with such a high.
It felt so good.
When I approached a woman and her kids buying diapers at Target with a $30 gift card, it was so funny to tell her there was no catch, no expectation of something in return, because the look on her face was priceless.
We (Blythe and I) took doughnuts to the ER
staff at Primary Children's Hospital to say
thank you for being so kind the two
times we've had to go there. Smiles all around!
We went to a local nursing home and took f
lowers to some of the patients that
the staff said rarely got visitors. One man we visited with
for almost an hour, and he hugged me and
said that it was nice to be remembered, even if it was by a stranger.
Yeah, we'll be going back.
At the rec center, we helped a mom who needed
a few extra hands to round her kids up after swimming.
At Starbuck's I paid for the order of the person
behind me in the drive thru.
I've always wanted to do that. It was fun :)
All day there were opportunities to do acts
of service for the people around me.
I sent a package to a VERY deserving friend,
who, I hope enjoys it when it gets there.
I sent letters to three different people in
my life, expressing my grattitude to
have them in my life.
Dinner to a struggling family.
Goodies to unexpecting friends. Oh the list goes on.
I'm not writing about this to be like,
"Oh look at me, look at all I did for people!"
I'm writing about this because of the wonderful
feeling I have after helping people today.
And I would strongly recommend spending
a day looking for people to help.
It's better than cake.
Seriously. Greatest. Birthday. Ever.
On to 29 acts next year!
